Applies To

RealFlight Deluxe
RealFlight Classic
RealRace G2
RealRace
R/C Pilot

Summary

Attempting to use a third party USB game port adapter with Windows 2000 may result in DirectInput errors. Additionally, the simulation may not run properly.

Resolution

Update the software prior to attempting to resolve this issue.

Follow these steps to resolve this problem:

  1. Make sure that there are not any controllers listed in the Gaming Options menu. To access the Gaming Options, click the Start button followed by the Settings options and then click the Control Panel. Click on the Gaming Options and review the list to ensure that it does NOT contain any controllers.

  2. Plug the USB adapter into an unused USB port on your PC. A 4-axis 4-button HID game controller should now appear on the Gaming Options list. If you are using the Rockfire adapter, make sure it is switched to mode 3 before inserting it into the USB port.

  3. Click the Start button followed by the Programs button. Next, use the mouse to point to the Accessories icon. Click on the Notepad application. Use it to open your RealFlight.INI file. (The default location is: C:\Program Files\RealFlight\RealFlight.INI - or RealRace or R/C Pilot). Proceed to the [Controller] heading.

  4. This heading will list JoystickID= and will have a number listed afterwards that is more than likely -1.Change this value to 1.

  5. Save and close this file.

  6. Run the simulator. You will receive an error message; however, this will then be replaced with the calibration prompt. While your controller will not respond to this calibration sequence, you will have access to the program (simulation) itself.

  7. Open the Controller Options dialog.

  8. Select 4-axis 4-button HID as a controller type, and then calibrate. You will get response and when you close and run the simulator again, the error message will not appear.
